Goldendoodles have become very popular over the past twenty years or so as one of the most sought-after family dogs in Europe and the US.
You may have seen different letters and numbers before the name Goldendoodle and wondered what they mean. These letters and numbers refer to the generation and mix of the doodle. The main differences between them will be the coat types and sizes of the dogs. Let me explain it to you...
An F1 is a first generation mix between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle - often resulting in a looser, low-shedding, teddy-bear style coat. Depending on the size of poodle, will result in either a standard (large) Goldendoodle, or a Medium Goldendoodle.
An F2 is a second-generation mix of an F1 and an F1.
An F1b is a mix between an F1 and a poodle, often resulting in a tighter curl and almost completely non-shedding coat - perfect for people with allergies! If the sire (male) is a toy poodle, then the F1b Goldendoodle will be smaller than its F1 mother.
An F2b is a mix between an F1b and an F1b.
Multi-gens are a mix between different generations of Goldendoodles, for example, F1 and F2.
